Buckingham Palace is the official residence of Her Majesty the Queen, who as head of state hosts many state receptions inside the palace. Since 1993 (partly as a consequence of a disastrous fire which devastated parts of Windsor Castle) a portion of the palace has been open to the public in July and August. The tour takes in many state rooms and to avoid long queues it is advisable to book in advance -details below. Also open to the public are the Royal Mews where the state coaches are on display, details.
