PORTSMOUTH Because of the miles of natural harbours Portsmouth, for many centuries, has been home to the Royal Navy and consequently has a long and lively history. A comprehensive history of the naval port can be gathered from the historic dockyard. Portsmouth has a new town full of modern amenities and an old town. The old town is charming with many mementoes of its historical past and has a small beach and harbour.
